A misty coastal morning settles over North Laguna Beach in this scene from 1972, captured at the corner of North Coast Highway and Cajon Street along old Route 1. A Shell station sits at the corner where cars come and go through the fog, while a steep residential street climbs toward hillside homes partially hidden in the marine layer.
Vintage sedans and imports line the curb — including a Jaguar XK120— perfectly matching the eclectic car culture of Southern California at the time.
The location remains recognizable today, though the Shell station has since disappeared, replaced by The Taco Stand restaurant. The narrow rise of Cajon Street, the hillside homes, and some of the original palms remain, tying the modern scene back to a quieter Laguna Beach of the early 1970s.
