A wide view of Niagara Falls photographed in 1969 from the United States side, looking across the Niagara River toward Canada. Prominent in the centre of the scene is the recently completed building that later became the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, shown here shortly after construction as part of the late-1960s redevelopment of the American Falls area.
The modernist structure, with its curved concrete and glass design, reflects the period’s approach to large-scale civic and visitor-focused development along the Niagara Gorge. In the background, observation towers and hotels rise on the Canadian skyline above the wooded escarpment, while roads and open land in the foreground emphasise the changing landscape on the US side. The building has since been repurposed and now operates as Great Lakes 360, an aquarium and living museum dedicated to the Great Lakes ecosystem.
