Myddelton Street runs near Clerkenwell Green and Farringdon Road, in an area known historically for its association with the New River Company — Hugh Myddelton was the engineer behind the New River, which brought fresh water to London in the early 17th century. The area today is just outside the formal boundary of the City of London, but very close by — a few minutes’ walk north of Smithfield and the old City wall
The white church spire right of centre is that of St James’s Clerkenwell. Between it and St Paul’s on the horizon can be seen the dome of the Old Bailey.
