This authentic 1970s colour photograph documents the Martello Tower in Seaford, East Sussex, as it appeared in 1971. The image provides a unique factual record of the coastal fortification before its major late-decade restoration. At the time of this photo, the tower featured a non-original top floor with residential-style windows and white doors, which has since been removed to return the scheduled monument to its original Napoleonic-era profile. The exterior displays signage for the Martello Tower Cafe and a bold orange Amusements sign, reflecting its mid-century use as a tourist attraction. Following the restoration, which included excavating the original moat, the building became the home of the Seaford Museum in April 1979.
