This authentic 1966 color photograph documents a live animal performance at Marineland of Florida (now Marineland Dolphin Adventure) in St. Augustine. The archival image features two bottlenose dolphins mid-leap as they jump simultaneously through narrow hoops suspended over a performance tank. The background showcases the park’s mid-century maritime aesthetic, including a clean white wall adorned with the “Marineland of Florida” logo framed by a stylized rope border and a circular dolphin emblem. This site, which opened in 1938 as “Marine Studios,” is recognized as the world’s first oceanarium and was a pioneer in underwater filming and marine mammal research. While Marineland is still standing and remains open to the public today, it has transitioned from a large-scale theatrical attraction to a more modern, conservation-focused dolphin sanctuary and interaction center.
