Street scene on Marine Parade in Great Yarmouth in 1959, looking across the junction with Lancaster Road. In the foreground, a child rides a small tricycle along the promenade, adding a candid note of everyday seaside life.
On the right stands the Norfolk Hotel, which still survives today, although no longer operating as a hotel. Over the years the building has had several later uses, including bars and night-time venues, and now trades as a fish and chips restaurant, reflecting the changing character of Marine Parade.
Across Lancaster Road is an amusement arcade building advertising bingo and amusements. This structure has since been heavily altered or replaced and now forms part of the Golden Nugget, leaving this view as a record of a more decorative mid-century seafront streetscape that has largely disappeared.
