This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures the daily rhythm of the City of London on Ludgate Hill during 1966. The street is busy with iconic mid-century transport, including a bright red AEC Routemaster bus on the number 11 route to Liverpool Street. Dominating the left-hand skyline is the elegant “wedding cake” tiered spire of St Bride’s Church, designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The image also shows the heavy black iron railway bridge that once spanned the road, a landmark that has since been removed. Pedestrians in mid-sixties fashion, including a man in a sharp black suit and a woman in a vibrant yellow coat, walk along the wide pavements. This digital download is a stunning record of London’s historic architecture and urban atmosphere, perfect to print for yourself as a piece of documentary vintage wall art.
