London Pavilion, Piccadilly Circus, London, 1990. This smart early-1990s view shows the restored London Pavilion after its major late-1980s rebuilding, with the grand cream-coloured façade, columns, pediment and rooftop statuary once again fully visible. Christmas garlands run across the frontage, while circular signs for Natural and Rock Circus pick out the building’s new commercial identity at street level. Along the pavement can also be seen signs for the Body Shop, Herald Tribune and Newsweek, with Westminster’s black railings and gold-topped posts in the foreground and a crane still lingering above the roofline, hinting that work in the area was only recently complete. It is a fine record of the Pavilion in its revived form, no longer hidden behind scaffolding or advertising signs and once again one of the architectural set pieces of Piccadilly Circus.
