This 1980s view of Leinster Terrace in Bayswater captures a wet-weather London streetscape lined with modest local businesses beneath soot-darkened Victorian terraces. The shopfronts provide plenty of useful period detail, including Economy Foods at number 25, the Bodrum Kebab & Steak House with its blue Bodrum Restaurant awning, Sylvia Grey dry cleaners and launderers, and Leinster Foods further along under a striped awning. Parked outside are a red Rover 200, a light brown Ford Sierra and a Renault 11, all helping to place the scene firmly in the late twentieth century. With rain on the road surface, parking meters by the kerb and the rather workaday appearance of the shops, the image is a strong record of ordinary everyday Bayswater before later retail turnover changed much of this stretch of Leinster Terrace.
