The Lebanon Pavilion offered fair-goers a rich blend of heritage and modern aspirations. Designed by Assem Salam and Pierre el-Khoury among others, the pavilion’s architecture comprised a cluster of rectilinear buildings surrounding a courtyard, styled to evoke the stone houses of a Lebanese village.
Inside the pavilion, visitors encountered exhibits featuring ancient Lebanese artefacts, natural-history displays including fossils, and showcases of modern industry and tourism. A boutique bazaar offered visitors handicrafts, metalwork and regional products, while a restaurant served Lebanese-style cuisine—a full sensory introduction to the country.
The pavilion also included a large sculptural work by Lebanese decorator Sami El Khazen: a white-metal and crystal piece over 11 feet high, which added an artistic focal point to the modern sections of the show.
