This authentic 1960s color photograph, captured in 1965, features the legendary James Bond Aston Martin DB5 on display at the New York Auto Show. The archival image showcases the Birch Silver grand tourer equipped with its famous cinema gadgets, including the retractable bulletproof rear shield and the extended tyre slasher (tire slasher) on the rear hub of the wire wheels. The driver-side door is open to reveal the black leather interior and the wood-rimmed steering wheel used by 007. Displayed at the New York Coliseum, the car was a major attraction before it moved across town later that summer to go on display at the New York World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows. In the background, a crowd of spectators in period-correct attire observes the “most famous car in the world.” While the New York Coliseum has since been demolished and replaced by the Time Warner Center, this factual record preserves a key moment in 1960s pop culture history.
