The garage sits at a busy stretch of Hampstead Road, with 1960s and early-’70s tower blocks rising in the distance and older Victorian shopfronts lining the street to the left. A few cars—including a Fiat 500—buzz along the road, reminding us how mixed Britain’s motoring landscape still was before the arrival of mass Japanese imports later in the decade.
