A 1960s colour photo of the main terminal building at Hamburg Airport (Fuhlsbüttel) in 1963. The architecture features a classic mid-century design with a prominent glass-walled control tower section and an open-air observation deck filled with spectators. In the foreground, two vintage red and white airport buses, branded with “Flughafen Hamburg,” are parked along the terminal ramp. Today, Hamburg Airport has been completely transformed through massive redevelopment projects, most notably the opening of the contemporary Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 buildings. The original terminal structure seen here has been replaced by modern glass-and-steel facilities designed to handle millions of international passengers annually. While the airport remains at its historic Fuhlsbüttel site, the vintage red buses have long been replaced by articulated low-floor transit vehicles, and the iconic “tulip” lamps have made way for modern LED apron lighting.
