This authentic 1950s colour photograph captures the solemn grandeur of the Guards Memorial located at Waterloo Place, at the junction with Pall Mall in London. Taken in 1956, the image highlights the impressive bronze statues of five guardsmen, representing the five regiments of Foot Guards, standing in front of a Portland stone pylon. The memorial, designed by sculptor Gilbert Ledward, commemorates the members of the Guards Division who fell during the Great War. The background showcases the magnificent neoclassical architecture of the area, including the “LLOYDS BANK LIMITED COX’S AND KING’S BRANCH” with its rows of Corinthian columns and arched windows.
