This 1984 view at Grosvenor Gardens captures a line of Daimler Fleetline sightseeing buses drawn up beneath the trees near Victoria. The front vehicle is an Ebdon’s Round London Sightseeing Bus, while the buses behind appear to be London Transport sightseeing buses, making the scene a useful record of competing tour operators in central London during the 1980s. A black London taxi passes in front and a blue Morris Marina is parked in the foreground, adding strong everyday period detail, while the equestrian statue in Grosvenor Gardens can be seen beyond the buses on the right. It is a good record of a now-vanished side of London tourism, when both private operators and London Transport ran traditional double-deck sightseeing services through the capital rather than the more standardised open-top tours seen today.
