This authentic 1960s color photograph, captured in 1966, features the legendary Goldenrod land speed record car on display at the New York Auto Show. The archival image showcases the remarkably slim, 32-foot-long streamlined vehicle, which was powered by four fuel-injected Chrysler Hemi V8 engines. Just months prior to this exhibition at the New York Coliseum, the Goldenrod, driven by Bob Summers, set a wheel-driven land speed record of 409.277 MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats—a record that stood for over 25 years. The display is headlined by a large yellow banner touting this “World Land Speed Record” and includes the iconic Mobil Pegasus and Chrysler Pentastar logos on the gold-painted fuselage. A promotional model in a gold outfit stands behind the barrier, interacting with a dense crowd of spectators interested in the “Powered by Plymouth” engineering. While the New York Coliseum has since been demolished, the Goldenrod itself was meticulously restored and is now a permanent exhibit at The Henry Ford Museum.
