Golden Lane dates back to at least 1274, originally called Goldeslane or Golding Lane, likely named after a medieval landowner. The area, known as the time as Cripplegate, was heavily bombed during the Blitz (1940) and the street was almost entirely destroyed. It was rebuilt in the 1950s and integrated into the Barbican and Golden Lane Estate.
