The Glenelg to Kylerhea Ferry offers a charming and historic route connecting the Scottish mainland to the Isle of Skye. Operating seasonally from April to October, this short crossing spans approximately 550 meters across the picturesque Kylerhea Narrows, providing travelers with stunning views and excellent opportunities to spot seals, otters, and seabirds along the way.
Operated by the Isle of Skye Ferry Community Interest Company, the ferry service is a cherished local enterprise dedicated to preserving this unique crossing. The vessel, MV Glenachulish, is notable as the world’s last manually operated turntable ferry. Built in 1969, it carries up to six vehicles and several passengers, offering a nostalgic and authentic travel experience.
The ferry runs daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, extending to 7:00 PM during the peak summer months of June through August. Departures occur approximately every 20 minutes, allowing for flexible travel plans.
