Today, Swissair no longer exists, having ceased operations in 2002 before being succeeded by Swiss International Air Lines. While Geneva Airport remains a major global gateway, the passenger experience has moved away from tarmac disembarkation via mobile stairs to the nearly universal use of air bridges (jet bridges) connected directly to the terminal. Many of the circular satellite buildings visible in other photos from this era at Cointrin have been modernised or replaced by the much larger “Aile Est” (East Wing), which opened in late 2021 to accommodate modern long-haul aircraft.
