This authentic 1980s color photograph captures a group of four people posing in a parking lot on Fort Street in Detroit, Michigan, in 1982. The location is just east of Brush Street. The Gardner & Schumacher building in the background still stands and has now been refurbished as Legends Gentleman’s Club. The building immediately to the right was (and still is) Jacoby’s German Bar which has been operating here since 1904. Looming over the scene are the soaring glass towers of the Renaissance Center. To the right, a now demolished red brick industrial building dominates the frame, This high-resolution scan beautifully documents the contrast between Detroit’s historic brick architecture and its contemporary glass skyline. This digital download is an incredible piece of local history, perfect to print for yourself as vintage Michigan wall art.
