This 1980s view looks east along Fleet Street from the junction with Fetter Lane, capturing a busy weekday scene in the old newspaper district. On the right, El Vino Wine Company is clearly visible and still survives today, while the City Camera Exchange frontage beside it marks a shop that has since given way to a doughnut outlet. The street is full of useful period detail, from the black cab and mixed traffic in the foreground to the red Routemaster on route 6 to Aldwych, identified as RML2329, its distinctive roof damage helping confirm the vehicle; that bus is now preserved in Canada. Other surviving and changed frontages, including Old Mitre Court, add to the documentary value of the scene, showing Fleet Street at a point when its historic commercial buildings still housed a mixture of wine merchants, camera dealers and other everyday businesses beneath the broader transformation of the area.
