Among the identifiable structures is the Boys’ Clubs of America building, which at the time still carried a First Avenue address. This building later housed different organizations, and the surrounding street layout evolved as First Avenue adjacent to the UN complex was renamed United Nations Plaza at a later date.
The image documents a transitional moment in the architectural and civic landscape of Midtown East, showing First Avenue shortly before the renaming and redevelopment associated with the expanding presence of the United Nations campus.
