This authentic 1960s colour photograph captures the striking modernist architecture of Fairfield Halls in Croydon during the summer of 1963, just months after its official opening. The image showcases the clean white lines and extensive glazing of the arts complex, with the County Borough of Croydon shield clearly visible to the left of the building’s name on the upper facade. Hand-painted signs over the entrance promote the screening of the 1959 film Porgy and Bess, which had its UK release in late 1962.
