This authentic 1980s color photograph, captured in 1983, documents the central plaza of EPCOT Center (now EPCOT) at Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida. The archival image features the Fountain of Nations, originally known as the International Festival Fountain, showcasing its powerful vertical water plumes. In the foreground, the clear waters of a secondary lagoon reflect the fountains and a pedestrian bridge where guests are seen in period-correct summer attire. The surrounding landscape includes lush green lawns and young palm trees, typical of the park’s early horticultural design. Positioned in the heart of Future World between the Communicore East and West buildings, this fountain was famous for its “Inaugural Ceremonies” where water from 29 different nations was poured into the basin. While EPCOT is still standing and remains a major global destination, the Fountain of Nations was sadly demolished in late 2019 as part of a major multi-year redesign of the park’s central core. This factual record preserves the serene and grand atmosphere of the fountain during its first full year of operation.
