This 1963 view on East Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth, shows a row of parked cars beside the seafront, with three adults and a small dog gathered by the nearest car while the Albany Building is under construction in the background (it opened the following year). The parked cars include a pale blue Hillman Minx, a light-coloured Morris Minor and a red saloon further along the line, all helping to place the scene firmly in the early 1960s. The image works especially well because it combines everyday holiday-coast detail with visible change, capturing Bournemouth at a moment when older seafront surroundings were beginning to be reshaped by new apartment development. More than a simple street scene, it is a strong record of East Overcliff Drive in transition, with people, cars and construction all sharing the same frame.
