The DuPont Pavilion was one of the Fair’s most lively corporate attractions, built around the idea that chemistry could be fun, futuristic and full of spectacle. Inside were two theaters running a fast-paced musical revue titled The Wonderful World of Chemistry, written by a Broadway composer and performed with full choreography, costumes and original songs. With shows running an incredible 24 times a day in each theater, it became one of the most frequently performed stage productions in Fair history.
The musical highlighted DuPont innovations in fibres, plastics and synthetic materials, demonstrating how chemistry was reshaping everything from clothing to household goods to the cars people drove. For many visitors — especially children — it was their first introduction to scientific concepts through entertainment rather than static displays.
The pavilion also showcased DuPont’s latest products, hands-on demonstrations, colourful exhibits and interactive displays meant to present chemistry as the backbone of the modern world.
Cheerful, quirky and unmistakably mid-1960s in tone, The Wonderful World of Chemistry embodied the optimism of the era — when science, technology and industry were seen not just as tools, but as pathways to a brighter future.
