Over time, it was expanded and remodelled into the imposing Victorian structure seen today. Its name, “Dreadnought,” reflects a sense of boldness and strength—qualities echoed in the building’s castle-like exterior, which dominates the western approach to Callander.

Inside, the hotel retains much of its Highland charm, with wood-panelled interiors, tartan fabrics, and decorative stained-glass windows. For generations, it has provided a base for travellers heading into the scenic Trossachs, and today it offers a range of ensuite rooms, including family and pet-friendly options.

Over the years, the Dreadnought has become part of Callander’s story—hosting guests, events, and memories, all while weathering the ups and downs of the Scottish tourism trade. In recent times, the hotel changed hands and became part of the Caledonian Leisure Group. Refurbishment work is underway to modernise its facilities while preserving its historic charm. Plans include updates to guest rooms and a revitalised dining experience under the original name, “The Dreadnought Restaurant.”
