A Class 101 diesel multiple unit stands at Platform 2 at Aberystwyth station in 1977, carrying an Aberystwyth destination blind beneath the overall canopy. The photograph is full of useful station detail, including the ornate iron canopy brackets, the brick platform face, the large hanging lamp, the platform “2” sign, a luggage trolley at the right, and the glass-roofed station structures and town clock tower rising behind the train. The blue and white British Rail livery, yellow cab front and lightly worn condition of the unit capture the everyday look of Cambrian Coast services in the late 1970s, when Aberystwyth still retained much of its older station character despite the loss of its former through routes.
