The Cosy Nook Theatre, nestled along Newquay’s Towan Promenade, was a cherished hub of entertainment for both locals and visitors. Opening its doors in 1929 the theatre quickly became a popular destination in the growing seaside town.

Originally built by the Newquay Urban District Council, the venue featured a modest auditorium seating 388 people. In 1962, renovations expanded its capacity to 550, allowing even more patrons to enjoy a wide variety of shows.

Throughout its history, the Cosy Nook hosted many notable entertainers, including Clive Dunn, Benny Hill, Ray Alan, David Nixon and Paul Daniels.

After decades of bringing theatre, comedy, and variety shows to the Cornish coast, the Cosy Nook Theatre closed in April 1991. The site was later repurposed as the Blue Reef Aquarium. In recognition of its cultural significance, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in November 2013 by Phillip Schofield, honoring the theatre’s enduring legacy.
