A nearby notice board displays a flyer for a community meeting regarding the “Future of Covent Garden,” reflecting the local concern over the area’s redevelopment following the market’s imminent relocation to Nine Elms. For over three centuries, this square served as the city’s primary fruit and vegetable exchange, characterized by its intense nighttime activity and the unique architecture designed by Inigo Jones and later Charles Fowler. Following the departure of the traders in 1974, the historic market halls were preserved and eventually transformed into the shopping and cultural hub that exists today.
