Churston station in 1965, with a British Rail Warship diesel standing at the platform while passengers wait with cases beneath the old station canopy. The photograph is full of period detail, from the enamel warning board telling passengers not to cross the line except by means of the footbridge, to the traditional station buildings, semaphore signal beyond and the smartly dressed travellers gathered along the platform edge. In the mid-1960s this was still a busy summer route for holiday traffic heading towards nearby Brixham, when trains like this brought large numbers of day-trippers and holidaymakers into the area. Although regular British Rail services later disappeared, the line survived into preservation, and Churston remains in use today as part of the Dartmouth Steam Railway.
