This 1982 view shows the Carpenters Arms on Seymour Place, its smart traditional frontage filling the corner beneath the street sign for Great Cumberland Mews. The pub’s fascia carries repeated Free House lettering along with Brady’s name panels, while the large curtained windows and warm interior lamps give the building a notably inviting look against the darker brick side street beside it. The contrast between the carefully detailed pub exterior, the old corner lamp, the quiet mews-like roadway and the heavier post-war block rising in the background captures a very typical central London mix of survival and change. It is a good record of a Marylebone back-street pub still looking firmly traditional in the early 1980s, before later refurbishments and wider changes to the area altered the setting around it.
