A wonderfully composed 1976 view looking along Carey Street towards the richly patterned stonework and turrets of the Royal Courts of Justice. The striking striped tower in the distance—part of George Edmund Street’s vast Gothic Revival complex—anchors the scene, rising above the quieter legal quarter that surrounds it. On the left is a corner building in warm red brick with Edwardian stone ornamentation, including a niche statue overlooking the junction, while the sombre façades of the legal chambers on the right set a more austere tone.
The street itself is alive with everyday movement: office workers, a cyclist weaving through the traffic-free space, and a pair of bright red K6 telephone boxes positioned almost theatrically at the far end. Long before security restrictions and pedestrian controls reshaped the area, this part of the Inns of Court still had an open, almost village-like character, blending architectural grandeur with the rhythms of daily professional life.
