A 1970s colour photo of the busy junction of Camberwell Road and Wyndham Road in London SE5 during the latter half of the 20th century. The scene from 1974 features the Galleon Wine Company off-licence prominently on the corner of a three-storey brick building, with several other local shops and a “National” sign visible along the street. In the foreground, a distinctive light blue Meccano-advertised Routemaster bus (RM952, registration WLT 952) on the route 12 to Peckham navigates the intersection alongside a pale blue Austin 1100 police car. This area of Camberwell has a long history as a vibrant residential and commercial hub in South London, with many of the Victorian-era buildings seen here still forming part of the local streetscape today.
