The Peter Pan Railway at Butlins holiday camp, Bognor Regis in 1975, with a bright red miniature locomotive carrying young riders through one of the camp’s landscaped family attractions. Peter Pan Railways were once a familiar sight not only at Butlins camps but also at many British seaside resorts and amusement parks, offering simple child-sized train rides that became a staple of post-war holiday entertainment. Here, the little engine, numbered 9, runs through a rocky miniature setting with shrubs, model features and painted scenery, while the larger holiday camp buildings rise behind. It is a charming record of a type of attraction that was once widespread across Britain’s holiday parks and seafront amusements, but has now largely disappeared.
