A 1990 view on Coventry Street in London showing neighbouring Burger King and Taco Bell branches side by side in a streetscape that now feels very specific to the late twentieth-century West End. The Burger King at 25 Coventry Street had opened in 1977, while Taco Bell opened next door in 1986, and the photograph captures both chains trading here at the same moment beneath their bright illuminated fascias as pedestrians pass along the pavement outside. Set among the larger commercial buildings of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square’s orbit, the scene records an early phase of American fast-food expansion in central London, with two once-prominent outlets that have both since disappeared from this location.
