This authentic 1970s color photograph, captured in 1972, documents the exterior of the Bavarian Corner, one of the original retail locations for Bronner’s Christmas Decorations in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The archival image features three whimsical Christmas gnome statues (humorously referred to as “Bronner’s Gnomes”) positioned on a lawn in front of a tan brick building. One gnome sits atop a white and green decorative park bench, while the others flank it, holding signs that read “Welcome to Bronner’s” and “Visit All Three Stores.” A striped green and white awning hangs over a display window filled with festive ornaments, beneath a large sign for the Bavarian Corner offering “Selections from Around the World.” The Bronner family business is still standing today as a global leader in the Christmas industry. This factual record preserves the quaint, European-inspired marketing and folk-art aesthetic that helped establish Frankenmuth as a premier Midwest tourist destination.
