This 1980s photograph shows a quiet village scene in Brill, Buckinghamshire, with a cream-and-blue double-decker bus swinging round the bend past a row of cottages and brick-built houses. The road sign in the centre points towards Oxford, Clifton and London, while the parked cars on the right include several very typical period saloons and hatchbacks, among them a yellow Austin Allegro and a dark blue Opel Manta in the foreground. The bus carries a rear advert for Pure Sound, and the open green in front, overhead wires and mixed village architecture give the scene a distinctly small-town Buckinghamshire character. It is a strong everyday record of Brill before later traffic changes and newer vehicles altered the look of this attractive hilltop village.
