Betws-y-Coed station in 1979, seen from above with a yellow-fronted British Rail diesel multiple unit standing at the platform beneath the station’s distinctive Victorian buildings and steep wooded hills beyond. This is a particularly interesting view because the former goods yard at right already shows the miniature railway tracks of the adjacent Conwy Valley Railway Museum, which had opened in 1973, while the miniature line itself was new in 1979. The contrast between the full-size Conwy Valley line train, the preserved station architecture and the freshly laid miniature railway captures Betws-y-Coed at a point where regular British Rail services and a growing heritage attraction sat side by side in one of North Wales’s best-known inland resorts.
