A 1970s colour photo of the exterior of Bayswater tube station on Queensway during the latter half of the 20th century. The scene from 1976 shows the station’s entrance under a prominent blue “BAYSWATER STATION” canopy, which also lists the Circle and District lines. To the right of the entrance is the storefront of “A. B. DAVIS” jewellers with its blue facade and security shutters partially raised, while to the left, a traditional florist and a newsstand advertising “THE TIMES” are busy with trade. The building immediately above the station is covered in scaffolding, indicating restoration work on the Victorian terrace. This station, which first opened in 1868, retains much of its historic character despite the mid-seventies commercial signage and the presence of pedestrians in period overcoats navigating the zebra crossing in the foreground.
