A 1970s colour photo of the grand exterior of Barclays Bank Limited located at 160 Piccadilly, on the corner of St James’s Street, during the latter half of the 20th century. The building, a Grade II listed Neoclassical masterpiece designed by William Curtis Green and completed in 1922, features three massive arched windows adorned with intricate black and gold wrought-iron screens. Originally built for Wolseley Motors, the premises became a landmark bank branch in 1927, known for its opulent interior and prestigious West End location. The scene in 1979 shows a black Austin FX4 taxi with the registration PGK 463L parked at the kerb, while pedestrians in period attire, including a man in a leather jacket and flared trousers, walk past the entrance. A traditional yellow salt bin and a classic zebra crossing beacon stand on the pavement, capturing the sophisticated yet busy atmosphere of this famous London thoroughfare in the late seventies.
