This authentic colour photograph, captured in 1984, documents the Ayr Miniature Railway on the South Ayrshire coast. The archival image features a 10 1/4″ gauge Severn Lamb Western loco in a blue and yellow livery sitting in the station on the 360-yard loop. We can see a prominent white-painted wooden footbridge, which provided pedestrian access over the tracks which was located on the Esplanade by the Cromwell Road car park. Opened in 1968 and closed in 2006, the railway was a staple of the Ayr seafront for nearly four decades before the site was redeveloped for modern housing. This factual record preserves the nostalgic charm of a vanished Scottish seaside attraction. All our images are available as royalty-free instant downloads for use in books, media, and creative projects – or make your own prints for home, work, or as a truly unique gift.
