This 1967 view shows an orange Austin Mini van belonging to Associated Tyre Specialists (N.W.) Ltd, parked at the kerb in what appears to be an industrial or back-street urban setting. The side lettering gives the firm’s address as 85 Liverpool Road, Manchester 3, along with the old-style telephone number “BLA 7039”, while the compact Mini van itself is seen in smart working order with chrome bumpers, white-painted wheels and wing mirrors mounted on the front wings. The van’s bright paintwork and neatly signwritten panels make it stand out strongly against the drab surroundings of rough ground, paving and plain buildings behind. More than a simple commercial vehicle study, it is a good record of the kind of small, locally liveried trades van that was once a very familiar sight in British towns and cities.
