This 1972 view shows an Austin A30, registration KMO 568, posed outside a suburban house with a man and woman standing on either side of the car. The A30’s narrow upright grille, small rounded body and simple post-war styling already looked old-fashioned by this date, which makes the photograph especially effective as a record of an older British saloon still in everyday family use. Behind it, the scene is full of domestic period detail, including the red saloon parked in the driveway, the broad picture windows, stone-faced frontage and a child looking out from the upstairs window. The woman’s bright pink coat and the man’s brown suit add even more early-1970s character, turning the image into more than a simple car portrait and making it a strong snapshot of ordinary suburban life with an increasingly uncommon vehicle at its centre.
