A 1970s colour photo of Aldwych in London during the latter half of the 20th century. The street scene captures the bustling atmosphere outside the Strand Theatre (now the Novello Theatre), which is prominently displaying an orange neon sign for the long-running comedy play “No Sex Please, We’re British,” then in its 8th hysterical year. To the left, pedestrians in period attire walk past the theatre’s box office and the neighbouring Waldorf Hotel. The road is busy with classic vehicles, including a dark Priddy & Sons Ltd furniture van, a yellow Evening News delivery van, and several black Austin FX4 taxis. Lush green trees line the curve of the crescent, framing the grand Edwardian architecture of the area, while a white coach with “Stapleford, Leicestershire” branding is visible further down the street.
