A 1970s colour photo of the platforms and pedestrian bridge at Aldgate tube station in the City of London during the latter half of the 20th century. The shot, taken in 1973, features the station’s distinctive wrought iron and glass roof with a large, illuminated “WAY OUT” sign hanging in the foreground. A historic dark wood kiosk advertising “Cigars” and “Tobacco” sits atop the platform level, while a set of stairs leads up to a mezzanine area adorned with a vintage red “PO” (Post Office) directional sign. On the left, a silver London Underground train is stationary at the platform, and the station’s original glazed tiling and industrial metalwork provide a detailed look at this historic Circle and Metropolitan line terminus as it appeared in the early seventies.
