An Aer Lingus Boeing 707, registration EI-ASO, seen on the apron at Shannon Airport in 1977 during the final years of the type’s passenger service with Ireland’s national airline. The aircraft wears Aer Lingus’s late jet-age livery, with the green shamrock tail and polished metal fuselage typical of long-haul operations during the 1960s and 1970s.
After leaving Aer Lingus service, EI-ASO went on to have a varied later career. In 1980 it appeared as a background aircraft in the film Airport, starring Burt Lancaster and Dean Martin, before being sold overseas and converted for freight use in Brazil. The aircraft was destroyed in a cargo accident in São Paulo in 1989, marking the end of a long and complex service history that spanned passenger, cinematic, and freight operations.
