TCDD Turkish 8F No. 45161 seen in 1984, standing in a rough railway yard with a goods wagon behind and a railwayman at the right-hand side of the frame. The photograph gives a good side view of this hard-worked 2-8-0, with its plain black smokebox, lined tender, outside motion and weathered finish all clearly visible. Your background is especially useful here, as several of these locomotives were shipped from Glasgow to Turkey during the Second World War as kits of parts and assembled locally, based on the LMS Stanier Class 8F design. By the time this photograph was taken, 45161 had become one of the survivors of that remarkable wartime export story, and it is now preserved at the Çamlık Railway Museum.
