Stratford-upon-Avon station in 1979, with the large British Rail nameboard above the entrance, a traditional red K6 telephone box at the kerbside and a woman passing in front of the brick station frontage. The photograph is rich in everyday detail, from the “No entry” sign and black iron gates to the posters beside the entrance, including one advertising rail links to Heathrow and another for The Shakespeare Connection. These visible signs firmly place the station within both the British Rail era and Stratford’s tourist identity, linking rail travel with the town’s literary associations. It is a strong street-level view of the station as it appeared in the late 1970s, before the disappearance of features such as the classic red phone box from ordinary station forecourts.
