Vintage colour photograph of a Rolls‑Royce Phantom III Sedanca, registration EGW 427, photographed parked on Regent Street in Cambridge in 1956. The car stands outside the University Arms Hotel, one of the city’s principal hotels during the mid-20th century.
In the background is the showroom of Herbert Robinson, then a local dealer for Rootes Group marques including Hillman and Humber, later repurposed as city council offices. The Phantom III shown here later gained fame when it was repainted yellow and used by Ken Dodd as a stage prop during his London Palladium performances in 1965. The car survives today, now painted red and based in Japan.
